A Head-Scratching Favorite
Rocket League currently has a lot of incredible teams, and Cloud9 is among them. However, it's a little confusing to see them listed as the favorites to win, even though the margin is essentially non-existent. The last event they won was DreamHack Dallas at the beginning of June, but since then we've seen them fall short on a couple of occasions. At the RLCS Season 7 Finals, they were clean swept 4-0 by Renault Vitality in the semifinals.
Following that, they were ousted in the quarterfinals of DreamHack Valencia by PSG Esports. Cloud9 has proven to be one of the best North American teams and they definitely have a chance of winning Rocket League Summit 1. But with them oddly listed as the favorites, you can easily find better value elsewhere.
The New-Look NRG
One of those teams is none other than fellow North American team, NRG Esports. Following Dreamhack Valencia, Fireburner retired after nearly four years of playing for NRG. He's a difficult guy to replace but NRG filled their vacancy with a huge star from Europe. They signed the three-time World Champion in Turbopolsa, who was formerly a part of the incredibly dominant Dignitas of 2018.
This will be the first event that we'll see NRG with Turbopolsa on the roster. Alongside JSTN and GarrettG, there is no shortage of talent and goal scoring ability. In fact, there's probably no roster as talented as this one. If all of the stars can get along then it could be a very impressive debut for the new look NRG.
Building Up the Bricks
Listed at +2000, The Bricks are a very interesting case. Going back to RLCS Season 7 Europe, The Bricks disappointed with a 7th place finish that saw them relegated to the Promotion Playoffs. They barely re-qualifed for RLCS Season 8 by narrowly defeating Veloce Esports 4-3. This team appeared to be a bottom team in Europe that had to bite and claw their way back into the RLCS. Then Dreamhack Valencia rolled around. The Bricks made it all the way to the semifinals by racking up wins over the likes of FC Barcelona, Dignitas and Veloce Esports.
They would end up losing to the eventual winners of the tournament in PSG Esports, but their run showed a lot of improvement. At the end of July, The Bricks also beat top four European team Triple Trouble on their way to winning the Rival Esports Summer Open. They're definitely still huge underdogs, but they might be able to take advantage of teams sorting through their roster swaps.
Picks: NRG (+350)
