Odds of Carli Lloyd Kicking in a 2019 NFL Preseason Game Have Opened

- Bovada is offering prop wagers on whether US Women's World Cup player Carli Lloyd will kick in an NFL preseason game in 2019
- The sportsbook is also offering odds on whether Lloyd will make a field goal or extra point
- Lloyd recently booted a 55-yard field goal during a joint practice between the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens
Bovada is of the belief that Carli Lloyd won't get her kicks in kicking for an NFL team before the 2019 NFL preseason concludes on Thursday.
The sportsbook is offering a pair of prop wagers related to the kicking exploits of the US Women's World Cup soccer star. Unfortunately, the odds are against her getting on the field.
One wager relates to the chances of Lloyd getting the chance to kick in an NFL preseason game this year. The second bet is about whether Lloyd will successfully boot a field goal or extra point during a 2019 NFL preseason game.
Lloyd recently kicked during an Aug. 20 joint practice between the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens. She successfully converted several 40-yard field goals before ultimately connecting on a 55-yard attempt.
Will Carli Lloyd Kick in a 2019 NFL Preseason Game?

Yes | +600 |
No | -1200 |
*Odds taken 8/27/19.
Lloyd's trainer, James Galanis, insists that she's been contacted by several NFL teams since her kicking exploits at that Aug. 20 practice.

Longtime NFL personnel evaluator Gil Brandt, one of the masterminds behind the assembly of the Dallas Cowboys powerhouse Super Bowl teams in the 1970s, believes it won't be long before a woman is employed by an NFL team.
Honestly, I don't think it will be long before we see a woman break through this NFL barrier. I'd give her an honest tryout if I were, say, the Bears. https://t.co/pyIlIY6Jxv
— Gil Brandt (@Gil_Brandt) August 20, 2019
Brandt suggested that the Chicago Bears should give Lloyd a call. Last season, Bears kicker Cody Parkey missed 10 field goals, including a would-be game winner in the NFC Wild Card Playoffs against the Eagles.

There's a serious flaw in the plan for Lloyd to kick in a game, though. The NFL preseason concludes on Thursday, when she's scheduled to be at Lincoln Financial Field, playing for the US Women's National Team in a friendly against Portugal.
Pick: No (-1200)
Will Carli Lloyd Make a Field Goal or Extra Point in a 2019 NFL Preseason Game?
Outcome | Odds at Bovada |

Yes | -220 |
No | +155 |
There's no question that Lloyd, 37, has the leg strength to boom a ball extreme distances. She scored a goal from midfield during the 2019 Women's World Cup. But if being an NFL kicker is indeed her goal, her technique requires work.

Take a closer look at the video of her field goal attempt. She's seven yards behind the ball at the snap. She takes a five step run up to the ball.
At most, an NFL kicker gets three steps before connecting with the ball. Seven steps is closer to the run up to a kickoff. Try that on a field goal attempt and, at best, it's getting blocked. At worst, you'll get snowed under by a sea of angry humanity.
Although, we might get to see a lot more Garo Yepremian Super Bowl 7-style plays if kickers start taking seven steps on field goal attempts.
Most remembered for his infamous misplaced pass in Super Bowl VII (1973), Garo Yepremian arrived in the US from Larnaca, Cyprus at the age of 22. Convinced he could become an NFL kicker Yepremian began contacting NFL teams….

Speaking of closer looks, Bovada is giving +155 odds on Lloyd not kicking an extra point or field goal in a 2019 NFL preseason game.
You should immediately stop reading this story and go pound that bet.
Pick: No (+155)
Lloyd Kicking? It Could Happen Someday
Kickers are a unique bunch. Yepremian taught himself to kick a football after moving to the US from Cyprus. In 1978, the Atlanta Falcons signed Philadelphia bartender Tim Mazzetti to be their kicker.

Could a woman like Lloyd kick in the NFL? Sure. She clearly has the leg strength. It's not happening this preseason, though.
