Dak Prescott’s NFL MVP Odds Range from +900 to +2000
- BetOnline list Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott at odds of +900 to be named NFL MVP
- Bovada, though, puts Prescott's NFL MVP odds at +2000
- No Cowboys QB has ever won the award
The odds of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott being named NFL MVP are quite similar to football people's impressions of Prescott as a QB.
They're all over the map.
BetOnline is very fond of Prescott's chances of landing the award. The sportsbook puts Prescott at +900 in their NFL MVP odds.
Bovada isn't nearly as strong a supporter of the Dallas QB. They've pegged his betting line at +2000.

Prescott's Press Clippings
Two weeks into the NFL season, there's a lot of love being thrown Prescott's way.
He leads the NFL in yards per completion (10.9). Prescott is 51-of-62 through the air for 674 yards and seven touchdowns. His passer rating is 142.8 . He's been intercepted once.
Dak Prescott now has 9 passing touchdowns of at least 50 yards in his career.

Prescott leads the NFL in completion percentage (82.3). He finished Sunday's win over the Washington Redskins with 18 straight completions.
What's Dak Worth?
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has already doled out $180 million in guaranteed money this season, more than he paid to purchase the franchise back in 1989.
Among the contracts signed, running back Ezekiel Elliott got six years and $90 million. Defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence inked a five-year, $105-million pact. Tackle La'El Collins' deal was worth $50 million for five years. Linebacker Jaylon Smith signed for six years and $68.4 million.
Pam Oliver on FOX: "(Dak) said when all is said and done, he does not necessarily expect to be the highest paid QB…Prescott said, 'I've never played for money. That's not what makes me happy.' He doesn't think he can ask for those kinds of riches if he hasn't won a Super Bowl."

Among the questions to be answered is how much is Prescott worth? His deal is up at season's end. He's reportedly seeking $34 million per season. He's already rejected a $30-million offer from the Cowboys.
An MVP season would certainly provide Prescott with plenty of negotiating clout. And if the Cowboys opted to slap him with the franchise tag, at minimum, Prescott would be guaranteed the average of the top five 2020 quarterback salaries.
That would currently work out to $32.22 million on a one-year contract.
Dak's Cupcake Diet
If the Cowboys were a college football season, the pundits would describe the start to their NFL schedule as a steady diet of cupcakes.
They whipped the 0-2 New York Giants, 35-17. Then they smacked the 0-2 Washington Redskins, 31-21.
Dak Prescott has 34 wins in his career. According to the Cowboys, Prescott is tied for 7th-most QB wins through first 50 starts in NFL history.
Tom Brady: 38
Ben Roethlisberger: 36
Russell Wilson: 36
Kurt Warner: 35
Tony Romo: 35
Matt Ryan: 35
Phillip Rivers: 34
Dak Prescott: 34

This week Dallas gets the woeful 0-2 Miami Dolphins, who've coughed up 102 points in their first two games. That's the most allowed by an NFL team to open the season since 1973.
BetOnline lists the Cowboys as 21.5-point favorites.
Before anointing Prescott as the next one, it might be wise to wait until Dallas actually faces a decent opponent.
As much as people want to get excited about Prescott's start to the season, the reigning NFL MVP has still been better.

Mahomes leads the NFL in passing yardage (821) and yards per game (410.5). His seven TD passes give him a share of the league lead with Prescott and Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens. Mahomes has yet to be picked off and the Chiefs are 2-0.
Up until this season, Prescott's numbers put him in the category of a mid-range NFL QB. Two outstanding games against winless teams don't make him a Hall of Famer.

Based on Baltimore's start, you can make an equally compelling case for Jackson as MVP.
Lamar Jackson & Patrick Mahomes are the only QBs in the Super Bowl era to have a 70+ comp pct, 7+ pass TD & 0 INT over the first two games of a season
Jackson: 71.9 comp pct, 7 TD, 145.2 passer rating
Mahomes: 71.4 comp pct, 7 TD, 136.3 rating

The point being, it's early – too early to be boarding the Prescott train.
For now, the best bet is to stick with a proven commodity.
Pick: Patrick Mahomes (+200 at BetOnline).
