Lions Devastated by Injuries
Racked by injuries, Detroit stumbled to a 19-16 loss in Washington last weekend as four-point road chalk, and has now lost seven of eight contests going into Thursday afternoon’s Bears vs Lions matchup at Ford Field.
Of the 46 players active for the Lions today 11 of them are rookies, including Isaac Nauta, Austin Bryant, Beau Benzschawel, and Michael Jackson making their NFL debuts.

With the Lions’ roster severely depleted by injury, head coach Matt Patricia was forced to go with 11 rookies in last Sunday’s loss. Among the injured is veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford, who missed his third straight game and remains sidelined indefinitely with a bone fracture in his back.
Detroit Offense Hobbled in Stafford’s Absence
The loss of Stafford has been particularly devastating. With Stafford under center, the Lions averaged a very respectable 28 points per game through their first eight games of the season. But the squad has seen that production drop dramatically since backup Jeff Driskell took over, averaging a meagre 18.7 points per game in the past three.
With Driskell’s status uncertain for Thursday’s contest as he nurses a hamstring injury, the Lions may be forced to turn to undrafted rookie David Blough, who has yet to take a snap in an NFL game.
The #Lions injury report says Matthew Stafford did not participate because of a back injury and his replacement, QB Jeff Driskel, was limited because of a hamstring injury.
That leaves someone named David Blough.— Patrick Finley (@patrickfinley) November 25, 2019
Complicating matters are the Lions’ struggles on defense. Detroit lost in Washington last weekend despite limiting the Redskins to just 230 total yards of offense, and sit near the bottom of most NFL team stats after allowing 396.2 yards and 26.5 points per game.
Matt Patricia finds himself squarely on the hot seat, but the Detroit Lions head coach remains a strong favorite to still have his job to start the 2020 NFL season#OnePride #Odds @SBD https://t.co/TBIsI2Jxn6

The Lions woes have placed their head coach squarely on the hot seat, with frustrated fans calling for the team to make yet another coaching change. However, Patricia's job looks safe for now, with strong -250 odds he'll still be coaching Detroit at the start of next season.
Bears Ride Three-Game Road Losing Streak
The Bears arrive in the Motor City facing issues of their own. Chicago is coming off a narrow 19-14 victory over the visiting New York Giants as six-point chalk last weekend, but has been dismal on the road of late, losing three straight away from Soldier Field while tallying just 14 points per game.

Chicago has also emerged as a massive betting disappointment this season, failing to cover in six of its past seven, with the lone exception coming in a 20-13 win over Detroit as 6.5-point home favorites in Week 10.
But while the Bears have consistently failed to produce ATS wins, they have generated steady returns for sports bettors taking the UNDER, which has prevailed in each of their past five.
Trubisky Producing Mixed Results vs Lions
While Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky has endured his fair share of adversity this season, he has enjoyed success in recent dates with the Lions, tossing six touchdown passes while leading Chicago to victory in their past two meetings.
However, Trubisky struggled in his lone career appearance at Ford Field, tossing just one score and three interceptions in a 20-10 loss back in December 2017.
Picks: Bears -4 (-109), OVER 37 (-109)
