Yankees Friday Underdogs at Dodgers on MLB Odds
AL East meets NL West at Dodger Stadium as two World Series contenders hit the diamond
The New York Yankees will be looking to help their slipping World Series odds when they open a rare three-game road trip against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night as +133 road underdogs in MLB baseball betting. New York finds itself in unfamiliar territory following consecutive series losses to the Cleveland Indians and Oakland A’s, dumping the club to +450 on the odds to win the World Series going into Friday night’s matchup at Dodger Stadium.
After posting consecutive wins just once during their current seven-game swoon, the Yankees have lost ground on both the Dodgers and the Houston Astros on those MLB futures. The Astros have emerged as +225 favorites on the World Series odds despite enduring a shaky recent run of their own, while Los Angeles remains comfortably set as a +275 second favorite.
New York’s recent road woes come on the heels of a five-game win streak away from Yankee Stadium. That continues a streaky trend that has plagued the Yankees throughout the season, with the club losing at least three straight road games on five occasions, highlighted by a season-worst 2-7 run back in early June.
A dip in run production has contributed to New York’s current road struggles, with the club having failed to score more than four runs in each of their past five away contests heading into Thursday's late action, fueling a 4-0-1 run for the UNDER in totals wagering on the MLB betting odds. That trend extends to recent interleague clashes with the Dodgers, with the two clubs combining to score six or fewer runs in five of their past six overall meetings, powering the UNDER to a 5-1-0 run over that stretch.
The Yankees also have some work to do to overcome a middling road record against the Dodgers, going 4-4 in eight meetings at Chavez Ravine since 2004. The two teams last met in Los Angeles for a two-game series six years ago, with New York claiming a 3-0 victory after dropping a 3-2 decision in the first game of the series.
Dodgers Dominant Team at Home on the Season
The Dodgers will take the field on Friday night after closing out a three-game set against the Toronto Blue Jays as heavy -235 chalk on the MLB odds late on Thursday night. Los Angeles has been a dominant force on home turf in the month of August and on the season as a whole with a league-leading mark in their own ballpark.
Los Angeles had allowed more than three runs in a home contest on just two occasions this month heading into late Thursday action, and have regularly rewarded bettors taking the UNDER, which had paid out in 15 of the club’s past 21 games. However, the Dodgers have also struggled at times to generate offense at home in recent weeks. Not surprisingly, the total is set at just 8.5 for Friday’s contest, but with the OVER favored at -115 on the MLB odds.
While starters for this weekend’s series have not been officially confirmed, reports indicate James Paxton will get the call for the Yankees in Friday’s series opener, while Los Angeles is expected to counter with Hyun-Jin Ryu.
Paxton improved his record to 9-6 on the season with a fourth victory in as many starts last time out, but still gave up four earned runs in just five innings as the Yankees topped Cleveland 6-5 last Saturday as -175 home favorites on the MLB betting lines.
The 30-year-old Canadian has faced the Dodgers just once during his six-year MLB career, avoiding taking the loss despite surrendering five earned runs in a 6-5 defeat in 2015 while a member of the Seattle Mariners, and is 0-2 in his past three starts in interleague play.
Ryu is coming off his worst start of the season, allowing four earned runs over 5.2 innings in the Dodgers’ 4-3 loss in Atlanta as -147 favorites last Saturday, but continues to lead the majors with a sparkling 1.64 ERA.
