PGA Tour Expert Picks: American Express
Look, predicting a pre-tournament winner in golf isn’t easy. While it’s true sports bettors can find fantastic value, it’s incredibly frustrating when one of your picks doesn’t even make the cut. That’s why I’m here to help.
Every week I’ll highlight three golfers who have a good chance to win the hardware for the upcoming weekend. This week it’s the American Express in La Quinta, California.

My Favorite Pick: Byeong Hun An +2500
An has quietly enjoyed a nice start to the 2019-20 PGA Tour season, and even though he’s never won an official event in North America, I think he’s due for a win in the not-too-distant future. An finished the fall by going T-6, T-8 and T-14 at the Sanders Farms Championship, CJ Cup and WGC-HSBC Champions, respectively.
The South Korean is making his American Express debut, so there is a bit of risk with this pick – especially at the +2500 price. Don’t let that scare you away – this guy is the real deal, and he should find himself near the top of the leaderboard come Sunday.
My Second Favorite Pick: Abraham Ancer +4000
Ancer rose to prominence in the 2019 FedExCup playoffs when he finished as a runner-up at the Northern Trust, putting him on the radar of many golf fans. Since then, Ancer has continued his hot play and hasn’t finished worse than T-38 in any of his last four starts.
The 28-year-old racked up four world top-10s in 2019 and has 11 since 2018. He won the 2018 Australian Open and is due for a victory on this side of the pond. At +4000, he’s a worthy pre-tournament bet and excellent DFS play in my eyes.
My Third Favorite Pick: Vaughn Taylor +5000
Taylor is far from a household name, but sharp golf bettors have been following his significant progress of late. Taylor ended the fall by going T-2 and T-10 before picking up where he left off last week at the Sony Open in the form of a T-12 showing at Waialae. Taylor placed T-7 here a year ago, so he’s clearly comfortable in his surroundings at the course.
