Leafs Among Favorites on Wednesday NHL Playoff Odds
The Toronto Maple Leafs can move within one game of their first playoff series win since 2004 when they hit the ice against the Boston Bruins on Wednesday for Game 4 of their opening-round set as -120 favorites on the NHL playoff betting odds.
Toronto came up with a character performance on Monday, posting a 3-2 victory as -120 home chalk, and now takes a 2-1 series lead into Wednesday night's game at Scotiabank Arena.
The Maple Leafs' win came on the heels of a tough physical clash with the Bruins in Game 2 that knocked them off their game and threatened to derail their playoff hopes. Buoyed by the continued standout play of goaltender Frederik Andersen, combined with strong outings from Mitch Marner and John Tavares that set the tempo, Toronto exploited an injury-riddled Bruins defense on their way to victory on Monday night.
Losers in three of five road dates, and now facing the prospect of returning home down 3-1 in the series, the Bruins enter Game 4 pegged as +100 underdogs on the NHL playoff lines, and have tumbled to lengthy +155 underdogs on the NHL series prices.
Western Conference Clashes on Wednesday Slate
Over in the Western Conference, the Calgary Flames look to even their series with the Colorado Avalanche at two games apiece as narrow -115 favorites, while the Nashville Predators aim to take a commanding 3-1 series lead as they visit the Dallas Stars in a Game 4 clash pegged as a pick'em on the NHL playoff odds.
The Predators needed clutch performances from Pekka Rinne to claim their series lead. After slamming the door on the Stars in Nashville's 2-1 overtime victory in Game 2, Rinne made 40 saves to lead the Predators to a narrow 3-2 win as +100 underdogs in Game 3, and lift the club to heavy -280 favorites on the NHL series prices.
Backed by the outstanding play of goaltender Ben Bishop, the Stars have limited opponents to two or fewer goals in seven of 10 outings, and have seen the UNDER prevail in totals betting in 14 of 21 outings. However, the Stars have claimed victory in just four of their last 14 meetings with Nashville, and have seen their Stanley Cup odds tumble to +1800 with their Game 3 loss.
Trailing only the Tampa Bay Lightning on the odds to win the Stanley Cup entering this year's playoffs, the Calgary Flames now find themselves playing catch-up, both on the ice and odds, after suffering two straight losses to Colorado.
The Flames have produced middling results since clinching a playoff berth on March 17, winning just seven of 13 outings, and have sagged to +1000 on the NHL futures. Calgary has also struggled to generate offense in their series with the Avalanche, scoring just four total goals in its two losses, capped by a 6-2 loss in Game 3 as a -110 wager in which Colorado fired 56 shots at Flames goaltender Mike Smith.
The Avalanche have carried over their strong play down the stretch into the postseason, posting wins in 10 of 14 games, including seven straight home dates, and have emerged as -135 favorites to end what was expected to be a promising playoff run by Calgary.
