70th Primetime Emmy Awards Betting Odds

The stars of television gather together for the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards which take place September 17. We are seeing a step forward from shows that are still in their infancy in the likes of The Handmaid’s Tale, Atlanta, This Is Us and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel that have garnered a lot of attention from avid TV watchers.

These shows will be duking it out for supremacy so let’s take a look at the odds for the major categories.

OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES

Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale took the world by storm last year, getting rave reviews and a 95 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes en route to an Emmy in this category. The show returned for a second season earlier in 2018 and is the favorite to repeat as the Outstanding Drama Series winner.

The Handmaid’s Tale will be in tough to repeat as two-time winner Game of Thrones returned with its seventh season which, as expected, was met with fantastic reviews and could be poised to become the first three-time winner since Mad Men won four in a row from 2008 to 2011.

This is always a hotly contested category and this year is no different. NBC’s This Is Us is looming in the background with its excellent acting that has caused many who have watched this show to shed a tear.

OUTSTANDING COMEDY SERIES

Over the last three years, it has been Veep securing the award for Outstanding Comedy Series, but that reign comes to an end this year as its seventh season premieres next year. Last year’s runner-up Atlanta, starring Donald Glover, is now in the driver’s seat to secure the award in 2018.

Closely trailing Atlanta is the new show The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel which is led by Rachel Brosnahan and terrific supporting actress Alex Borstein. The show is about a recently single housewife trying to break into the standup comedy scene.

Regardless of the outcome, we will be crowning a first-time winner in the Outstanding Comedy Series category.

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR DRAMA

One of the tightest races this year comes in the Outstanding Lead Actor Drama category between 2017 winner Sterling K. Brown from This Is Us for his portrayal of Randall Pearson and Matthew Rhys from The Americans as he plays Philip Jennings.

This Is Us has been nominated for three awards this year and with Brown being one of the stars of the show, it’s no surprise that he’s the favorite to repeat. Meanwhile, The Americans, in its final season, has been nominated for four awards. Rhys has been a nominee for this award the last three years and this may be the year he gets his win.
