SBTech Launches Physical Sportsbook at Indiana’s Rising Star Casino

European sports betting technology company SBTech this week debuted an on-property sportsbook at Rising Star Casino in Rising Sun, Indiana. The sports betting facility is powered by the provider and operated under the BetAmerica brand of US casino and racetrack operator Churchill Downs.

The launch of the Rising Star Casino sportsbook marked SBTech’s first foray into Indiana’s nascent sports wagering market.

The Hoosier State legalized sports betting earlier this year as part of a larger gambling expansion reform. Indiana’s first physical sportsbooks were launched on September 1. The state’s market then received a major boost in early October when its first mobile betting apps were rolled out.

Indiana is the sixth state SBTech has ventured into since May 2018 when the US Supreme Court annulled a long-standing ban on athletic gambling.

The BetAmerica sportsbook at Rising Star Casino features self-service betting kiosks, cashiers, and a full bar. SBTech said following the launch of the facility that it anticipates the kiosks to drive a significant portion of the betting volume at the property and to be quickly adopted by buyers, as they have in other states.

It also emerged that the recent opening of the physical sportsbook will soon be followed by the roll-out of a mobile betting app. It will too be branded BetAmerica and powered by SBTech’s proprietary platform.

Replicating the Success Achieved in Other States

Of their Indiana debut, SBTech US President Melissa Riahei said earlier this week that their “on-property sportsbook product has been extremely successful to date, and we look forward to replicating that success for Rising Star Casino.”

Ian Williams, President of online gaming at Churchill Downs, added that they are thrilled to be working with SBTech and Rising Star Casino to bring the BetAmerica brand to Indiana. He further pointed out that by using SBTech’s technology platform and products, they have established a strong foothold in several states, and look forward to continuing our growth.”

Aside from Churchill Downs, SBTech has formed a series of partnerships in the US to capitalize on the legalization of sports betting in multiple states since the PASPA strikedown last year, with some of its other partners being Golden Nugget, Resorts Casino Hotel, and the Oregon State Lottery.

Last month, SBTech, together with the Oregon State Lottery, launched the Scoreboard betting app, which marked the start of mobile betting in the state.

The European gambling technology provider entered Indiana just days after the state released promising October sports betting figures. The state’s wagering market was boosted by the start of mobile betting last month and data showed that Indiana’s sportsbooks, physical and digital, handled $91.7 million, up from $35.2 million in September.

Online and mobile betting accounted for the majority of wagers placed in the Hoosier State in the first full month of digital wagering on its territory.
