NetEnt to Enter West Virginia Online Casino Space with BetMGM


Swedish online casino games provider NetEnt is set to enter West Virginia’s recently regulated iGaming market through a partnership with BetMGM, news emerged Friday.

BetMGM already offers NetEnt content in New Jersey. The iGaming and sports betting brand will now be able to expand its offering in West Virginia through its recently strengthened alliance with the games supplier.

West Virginia opened its online gaming market in mid-July when DraftKings launched the state’s first online casino. BetMGM joined the state’s iGaming space in late August. The operator initially offered 30 games to its customers in West Virginia in a dedicated tab within its previously launched BetMGM Sports West Virginia product, but is on track to rapidly expand its offering with more titles from a host of providers, including NetEnt.

BetMGM is the online gaming and sports betting brand of ROAR Digital, a joint venture formed by US casino operator MGM Resorts International and European gambling giant GVC Holdings. The two companies aligned in 2018 to jointly pursue expansion opportunities in the US betting and online casino fields.

As mentioned earlier, NetEnt’s partnership with BetMGM marks the Swedish content provider’s first foray into West Virginia’s market. The company recently received a temporary license from local regulators to supply its games to locally authorized operators.

A Significant Deal

Commenting on their partnership with BetMGM and their West Virginia entry, Brian Kraft, NetEnt’s Vice President Commercial, America, said that their partner’s success in the US “has been impressive and shows no signs of slowing down” which makes their alliance with BetMGM “a significant deal for our company as we continue to expand across the country.”

Mr. Kraft went on to say that “thanks to the strong performance of our games locally, the US is now a major revenue driver for NetEnt and that they are looking forward to working with BetMGM in West Virginia and accelerate their growth.

NetEnt recently reported a triple-digit increase in gross gaming revenue for the second quarter of the year in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, the two states that its games are currently available in. The growth was attributed to the overall surge in online gaming after land-based casinos were shut down to help curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Of the addition of NetEnt games to their West Virginia offering, Matthew Sunderland, VP Gaming at BetMGM, said that they have already enjoyed great success with the content supplier in New Jersey.

Mr. Sunderland went on to say that NetEnt’s team really understands “what appeals to gaming customers” and that he is positive “this will serve as a major advantage as we strengthen our existing casino offering in West Virginia.”
